Singer/songwriter Tony DiCorpo has been singing and playing guitar for over twenty years. You will find him playing his tunes in a bar with his band, The High Tide or in a coffeehouse with just his acoustic guitar. His three chord, acoustic-based style comes from the heart. The Cleveland, Ohio native mixes country and folk with a rock feel to get a style that most classify as Alt Country, folk rock, or more recently, Western Beat. We can even say it bridges on Americana. Regardless of the proper classification, just refer to it as great, original music.
Tony's musical style is the melting pot result of many years and musical tastes. "Growing up, my dad sang Sinatra tunes and my mom sang church hymns so I was already diverse", he says with a grin. "By high school, I had a cassette library of great bands like The Who, Rush, even Elvis, Gordon Lightfoot, Billy Joel and Jimmy Buffett", says DiCorpo. (He credits Buffett as his inspiration to become a songwriter). In recent years, his main music listening preference has been the more mainstream country today's pop-rock. So it is with all of these years that his musical tastes are combined: rock, folk, pop and country.
His writing began by accident in those college years of the mid-eighties. "I was writing some thoughts down and discovered the words would sound great with music." Realizing that he had true appreciation for music and songwriting, he thought he'd give it a whirl. He already played the guitar so it stuck and Tony's been hooked ever since.
His most recent CD titled Count Me In on Ansta Records was released in 2007 and favored acclaimed reviews. His next, currently untitled and still in production will be available in mid 2009. With 8 CD's under his belt, Tony is no stranger to writing and recording. His efforts even directed him to record a 4 song sampler for the holiday season this past year. Even though Tony writes about what most other songwriters do, it's his poetic rhyme, creative melodies and story telling that set him above the rest. Listen to his music and you will hear about everyday life and love. His original music is quite simple because as DiCorpo says, “I have never tried to write anything difficult in my life.” Whether he writes from a true life experience or fictional story, he creates a visual picture. “That’s the key”, he says. “If the listener knows what the song is about after just one listen, then I know I have accomplished what I set out to do.”
Tony is managed by The Entertainment Group and currently resides in Cleveland, Ohio. He is a full time working musician and recording artist.
